Curriculum Vitae

I was born and raised on the rural Northern Neck in Virginia, within walking distance of the Chesapeake Bay. This setting cultivated my interest in understanding the environment and our impacts on it. During college I was drawn to classes focused on applied knowledge of the environment, which resulted in dual bachelor degrees in Biology and Chemistry. Following graduation I worked as a chemist on hazardous waste cleanup sites, emergency responses and natural disasters for an EPA contractor. I continued working for the contractor while completing an Environmental Studies Master’s degree. During this time I also developed a deep appreciation of wetlands and decided to pursue a Ph.D. studying pollution in these systems. This led me to LSU where wetlands are plentiful and then to a post-doc in southern California where they are almost non-existent. I am happy to be back on the coast where I will continue to study pollution (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, plasticizers, plastics, etc.) in the Gulf of Mexico.
