COASTAL HEALTH & WATER QUALITY

The Coastal Health and Water Quality (C-HaWQ) Lab in the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences (PEnS) at Texas A&M Corpus Christi is managed by Dr. Jeremy L. Conkle. Our research focuses on the fate, transport and health impacts (public and ecosystem) of pollutants in coastal environments. While these interests are broad, we are particularly interested in understanding the impacts of emerging contaminants, pesticides and marine microplastics. Our studies range from surveys of freshwater, coastal and marine environments to controlled laboratory experiments that seek to quantify contaminant effects on ecosystem function and organismal health. Due to the range of expertise needed to perform these studies, C-HaWQ collaborates with researchers within the university, regionally and around the Gulf of Mexico to comprehensively assess pollutants.
